Neri Binazzi, Lessico pistoiese e giovani generazioni: un sondaggio preliminare

The article presents the first evidences of a work in progress dealing with the lexical competence of young speakers from Pistoia. The sample of the investigated lexicon is obtained consulting the Nòvo dizionario universale della lingua italiana edited by Policarpo Petrocchi (1887-1891), which has been compared with the Vocabolario pistoiese edited by Gabriella Giacomelli in 1984. Competence and use of lexicon resulting from this comparison has been investigated in a small group of teen-ager students.

Luigia Garrapa, Contro l'impredicibilità dell'elisione vocalica nei clitici: il ruolo svolto da morfologia, fonologia, prosodia, frequenza e timbro vocalico

This paper deals with final vowel elision on clitics in spoken Florentine Italian. The data under analysis come from two sources: a huge corpus of spoken Florentine Italian (spontaneous speech) and my own fieldwork (elicited speech). Previous analysis treated elision on clitics as an optional and mostly unpredictable process, entirely subject to variation. This paper, instead, argues that final vowel elision on clitics (followed by lexical verbs) is always an optional process, mostly constrained by morphology, phonology and prosody together with the quality of the elidable vowels and the frequency of use of different types of clitics. It follows that, final vowel elision in Florentine Italian can be predicted, at least to some extent.

Aljula Jubani-Bengu - Emilia Conforti, I parametri acustici dell'accento nella parlata di San Benedetto Ullano e l'albanese standard

The accent could have different features. Through the acoustic analyses of the both vocalic systems we verified that the stressed vowels are longer than the unstressed ones, and have higher values of intensity, especially in the dialect of San Benedetto Ullano, meanwhile the values of the fundamental frequency remain almost invariable.

Monica Merli, Scrivere in Lingua Seconda per l'università. Prime riflessioni sui corsi di scrittura presso la sede italiana di Middlebury College

Students from American university (study abroad) programs who enroll in courses at an Italian university realize the urgency to improve their writing skills more in relation to textual and stylistic proficiency than to linguistic competence. Hence, the necessity for teachers of such Italian programs to design courses which, together with revision of structures and their use, help students to develop adequate skills to apply to their university studies. This, in turn, will enable students to refine textual and thematic competence incidental to a superior level rather than to one merely communicative. Therefore, it will be beneficial to identify the students' academic needs in order to place them in a sociolinguistic setting where they can recover the intellectual identity that defines them in their native language.

Rossana Stefanelli, ἄχος ἄχνυμαι: etimologia e dintorni

In this paper I try to connect the greek words ἄχος, ‘pain, distress', ἄχνυμαι, ‘to grieve, mourne' with ἄγχω, ‘to strungle', and with the root ₂engʰ‘narrow' largely represented in the ie. languages. On the basis of this etymology, the greek verbs from ₂engʰ have been reexamined as for their morphological and aspectual features.

Andrea TarantolaBare Sentences e riferimento temporale

In the absence of tense, the Inflection in Cape Verdean Bare Sentences is an interface phenomenon between semantics and syntax. The core of the system is a variable-operator calculus defined on the bases of three parameters: (i) the aktionsart of event structure, that is, the verb ant its arguments; (ii) a t-variable that search a (iii) proper antecedent to link with, e.g. the deictic moment of utterance.

Giuseppe Vitolo, Interpolazione di elementi avverbiali tra clitico e verbo in rumeno

This linguistic research describes the distribution about some adverbial forms in affirmative, interrogative and negative clauses of the Rumanian language, establishing a comparison with their position in similar syntactical constructions of some other Romance languages, but also some dialects of Southern Italy. The theme treated in this study concerning the possible insertion of lexical elements between clitic and verb in clauses with proclitic pronoun. In the Rumanian language this phenomenon concerning the negative adverbs mai and încā: the first adverbial form can be inserted between clitic and verb in clauses with finite and infinitive verbs or in negative clauses, while the second adverbial form can be interpolated between clitic and verb only in clauses with infinitive verb. But adverbs like mereu, niciodata, deseori, chiar, deja, nici macār and the negation nu cannot separate the clitic from the verb.

Since the first studies on Egypto-Semitic comparison many studies were made on the problem of the loan-words and its phenomena in the course of the history. This note following this stream of studies proposes to supply a general picture of the problem of borrowing, starting from two particular lexical field: Anatomy and Wild Nature. Its utility is obvious not only for Egypto-Semitic, but even in the Afroasiatic lexical comparison.

Alessandro Gori, Brevi note e osservazioni su alcune recenti pubblicazioni islamiche etiopiche in lingua oromo

The article deals with some Oromo Islamic texts recently published in Addis Ababa, among which a version of the Koran. The origin and content of this literary production is analyzed in detail and evaluated in the light of the cultural Islamic revival in post-Därg Ethiopia. As Islam is a spreading religion in Ethiopia and the Oromo are one of the most relevant Muslim ethnic groups in the country, the paper quickly mentions also the main problems related to the presence of Islam among the Oromo. In its conclusions, the article tries to assess the role and function that the growing Oromo Islamic literature could play in the shaping of a Muslim consciousness in contemporary Ethiopia.
